Passat transmission shudder has me worried sick
zenobiazabell
Okay so I've got a bit of a situation with my 2019 Passat and I'm hoping someone here has been through something similar because I'm genuinely losing sleep over this. The other day I was driving back from Dubai and I noticed this weird shuddering sensation when the car was shifting between third and fourth gear, almost like it was hesitating or slipping for a fraction of a second before engaging properly. At first I thought maybe I was imagining things but it's happened a few more times since then and I'm pretty sure it's getting worse. I've read enough horror stories about DSG transmissions failing and costing a fortune to repair that I'm honestly terrified to even drive the car now. I took it to one garage who told me I needed a full transmission rebuild which would cost almost as much as the car is worth, but something about the way he said it made me feel like he was just trying to scare me into spending money. I've been doing some research online and apparently sometimes it can be something as simple as a fluid change or a mechatronics unit issue that doesn't require a complete overhaul. I came across a website, https://exoticautoservices.ae/volkswagen/volkswagen-repair-abu-dhabi/, that seems to specialise in these European cars and actually has proper diagnostic equipment for VW transmissions. I'm thinking of giving them a call but I wanted to check here first if anyone has had experience with DSG issues and whether it's worth getting a second opinion before I commit to anything major. Really hoping it's not as bad as I'm imagining because I absolutely love this car and I'm not ready to say goodbye to it just yet. Any advice would be massively appreciated right now.
